"A Ride With Bob"

Yesterday, Phillip and I along with Wesley & Sandy Hicks went to the Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston. We saw "A Ride With Bob" featuring Asleep At The Wheel.
It told the life story of Bob Wills and was great. The music was very good. We had one of the Upper Opera Boxes (Mezzanine) and the view was wonderful. The tickets were given to us by a friend of the Hicks' children. After the show we went to eat at Willie G's Restaurant and it was excellant food. Prices were right up there with the ticket price at the Opera House.

Marine Military Academy

My Grandson, Scott Earl Courtney, Jr. is a Senior at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX. He is Cadet Captain and Company Commander of Delta Company. We recently went to San Antonio with Dilcia & Kirk to watch his last football game of the season. He is Captain of the Leatherneck Team. Very Cold. Was a good trip. We talked all the way up & back. Dilcia was the only one who slept on the way back.

A Storm Called IKE

Well, the storm is finally over. As you can see from the photos, we had a big tree on the house. Tree is gone and all the junk in the yard cleaned up by the tree people. A small leak on the bathroom ceiling and maybe a small hole in roof. We lost a lot of shingles, but have not inspected the roof. We lost power at 7:15pm on Friday and it came back on Tuesday (yesterday) around 5:00pm. Between Salters Shelter, Williams on the River, and Mike's Restaurant we were able to survive. We were lucky to have almost continual phone service from our land line, but the cell phones were not working good. We could get calls on both services, but calling out was not always successfull.

Marriage & Life

I have been married only 7 months and I love it. Phillip is my true soulmate and I had to wait untill I was 70 yrs old to find him. Actually he found me. We are both very happy.

What a summer. Barely got to visit with my busy Grandkids and I am so proud of them. Jennifer came from New York City for a visit and it was wonderful. Her Dad, Rusty always cooks us the best meal ever when company comes. Christopher also came later for a short visit (new tires visit) and we got another wonderful meal from Rusty. Chris is at A&M for his Junior Year. Very involved with the 12th Man Organization. Ellie came by several times, once with Matt, and once with Aaron. Ellie brought me a piece of Carrot Cake Cheesecake from Cheese Cake Factory. Ellie is a Freshman at U of Colorado in Boulder. She is a member of the band, and so far loves it. Matt brought me a Sam Houston Decal for my window. He is a Junior. Earl came and stayed a long time. Long enough to eat a pot of stew and drink a gallon of tea. He is back in Harlingen at the Marine Military Academy where he is a Senior. He went back early to start Football Practice. Abbie, the youngest started 3rd grade this year. She had a busy summer with camps, trips and sleep-overs. I got to see her once in June and she came for my birthday on August 1.

I cooked a yummy stew today. Sent some to a sick neighbor and Phillip & I will have the rest for supper. We had a carpenter/builder come this morning and look at the porch in back. I will keep you updated on this. It is a big thing for me.

Here Comes the Groom

Phillip Hubert Jenkins is the lucky groom. He is best friends with Paul & Susie and they are the ones that introduced him to me. He needed a card partner.
